Summary

James and Cordelia must save London—and their marriage—in this thrilling and highly anticipated conclusion to the Last Hours series from the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Cassandra Clare。 Chain of Thorns is a Shadowhunters novel。

Cordelia Carstairs has lost everything that matters to her。 In only a few short weeks, she has seen her father murdered, her plans to become parabatai with her best friend, Lucie, destroyed, and her marriage to James Herondale crumble before her eyes。 Even worse, she is now bound to an ancient demon, Lilith, stripping her of her power as a Shadowhunter。

After fleeing to Paris with Matthew Fairchild, Cordelia hopes to forget her sorrows in the city’s glittering nightlife。 But reality intrudes when shocking news comes from home: Tatiana Blackthorn has escaped the Adamant Citadel, and London is under new threat by the Prince of Hell, Belial。

Cordelia returns to a London riven by chaos and dissent。 The long-kept secret that Belial is James and Lucie’s grandfather has been revealed by an unexpected enemy, and the Herondales find themselves under suspicion of dealings with demons。 Cordelia longs to protect James but is torn between a love for James she has long believed hopeless, and the possibility of a new life with Matthew。 Nor can her friends help—ripped apart by their own secrets, they seem destined to face what is coming alone。

For time is short, and Belial’s plan is about to crash into the Shadowhunters of London like a deadly wave, one that will separate Cordelia, Lucie, and the Merry Thieves from help of any kind。 Left alone in a shadowy London, they must face Belial’s deadly army。 If Cordelia and her friends are going to save their city—and their families—they will have to muster their courage, swallow their pride, and trust one another again。 For if they fail, they may lose everything—even their souls。

3。5 ish stars? This was a solid ending even when there were moments it dragged a little。 As for the series as a whole I think there were some characters that should have had a lot more page time and development and it felt like a lot of stuff I wanted to see developed from the short stories before this series didn't quite end up developing as interestingly as I thought they would, but pretty enjoyable still!! 3。5 ish stars? I have loved every Shadowhunter book so far, but I was a little indifferent about this series before starting the third。 I am SO happy that I stuck with it。 I can now look at this series, as a whole, as a phenomenal piece of work。

I will forever adore this world and these characters Cassie has created。 I’ve been in love with this universe for half my life (WHAT IM THAT OLD) and it holds such a treasured spot in my heart。 It’s always sad to end any trilogy in this universe especially with no new books in the pipeline for the next few years。 It just makes me hug this book tight (literally and figuratively)。 I will say I have some critiques of this one。 I agree with several other reviewers that this was Cassie’s weakest conc I will forever adore this world and these characters Cassie has created。 I’ve been in love with this universe for half my life (WHAT IM THAT OLD) and it holds such a treasured spot in my heart。 It’s always sad to end any trilogy in this universe especially with no new books in the pipeline for the next few years。 It just makes me hug this book tight (literally and figuratively)。 I will say I have some critiques of this one。 I agree with several other reviewers that this was Cassie’s weakest conclusion。 The plot was rinse and repeat of the first two。 The strides at the beginning of the book towards better communication showed how it solved 95% of all the characters problems, but then several characters continued to hold on to secrets dragging out certain storylines far too long。 Also in the previous books James was mind controlled so I could excuse his foolish decisions, but in this book? No justification he annoyed me sm。 I also did not love how quickly a certain beloved character’s death was brushed over (we didn’t even get to see the reaction of their parents nor have a funeral)。 However I once again love the characters and the relationships in this book。 I couldn’t help but be so invested in their well being and so happy when they found happiness。 These books show love through the generations and the parallels to the other series made my heart so happy。 Lots of full circle moments, if you will。 Goodbye for now Shadowhunter Chronicles 🖤**also just want to add that according to Goodreads I added this book tbr NINE YEARS AGO AHHHHHHHH 。。。more

i thought the worst this book could do was break my heart, but apparently worse still is leaving it cold and indifferentit's been a while since something I've read felt so flat - I wouldn't have even finished it, if it weren't for the long and emotional connection I had with the series beforehandthe things I've been holding my breath about were resolved in a blink of an eye, making all the earlier buildup to them seem irrelevant, and the things that should have been resolved immediately dragged i thought the worst this book could do was break my heart, but apparently worse still is leaving it cold and indifferentit's been a while since something I've read felt so flat - I wouldn't have even finished it, if it weren't for the long and emotional connection I had with the series beforehandthe things I've been holding my breath about were resolved in a blink of an eye, making all the earlier buildup to them seem irrelevant, and the things that should have been resolved immediately dragged and dragged for what seemed like forever。 this book felt simultaneously way too long and underdeveloped。 things were rushed, but words? there were way too many。 all the revelations and character development seemed forced and entirely unearned。 I was constantly under impression that CC simply made a list of all the drama and conflict she had (sometimes needlessly) created in previous books, and then just went to check one after the other as "done"even the sad parts like WHAT THE HELL?!? it was all so forcedand don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of some plotlines, the Deus ex Machina, the unsatisfying victories。okay wait I'm not finishedevery important thing in this novel was skipped over and then later recalled AND ITS STILL 670 PAGES LIKE HELLO?!?? more things happened in the epilogue than the entirety of the novel and SURE AS HELL more *actually relevant* things happened off page rather than onthe romances, too。 it was all so cheesy and fan service and unnatural? I was cringing so bad at some Paolo Coelho worth quotes thrown in the middle of conversations like, ugh。 UGH。 。。。more

。。。more

OkayI have a lot to rant about so I apologize on advanced。The problem with Cassandra Clare books is the predictability and how repetitive they are。 All her series follow the same format; group of 17 year olds who think they know more than their parents save the world from problems they create due to misunderstandings, miscommunication and "love"。 There is not one book of hers where I can say I liked all the main characters, I'm lucky if I like 2。I hate Cordelia with a passion, I don't care if sh OkayI have a lot to rant about so I apologize on advanced。The problem with Cassandra Clare books is the predictability and how repetitive they are。 All her series follow the same format; group of 17 year olds who think they know more than their parents save the world from problems they create due to misunderstandings, miscommunication and "love"。 There is not one book of hers where I can say I liked all the main characters, I'm lucky if I like 2。I hate Cordelia with a passion, I don't care if she apologized that was a bad apology she basically said "we have both done wrong"。 She completely screwed Matthew over, if this book was more realistic he would have committed。 I was angry at him too at first but I very quickly decided he was simply failed by everyone around him and I felt bad for him。 James was good, Anna and Ari were whatever。 I am pissed about Christopher, it doesn't make any sense and it was honestly disrespectful and uncalled for。 Grace redeemed herself。 Lucie and Jesse probably had it best in this book。 Thomas and Alistair have my heart, they were my favourite。The ending was boring and not great for a final book。 Action scenes were boring。 It was a mediocre book。 But it was a classic cassandra clare, i just dont think its one of her best。 。。。more

I can get behind this book。 It closed all the miscommunication from the previous books and had a satisfying close to all the plot points。 Although, there is a question that I put forth of whether or not THAT (view spoiler)[DEATH (hide spoiler)] was necessary。 All in all, my final thoughts can be summarised by saying I love Jesse Blackthorne。 He is such a sweetheart。 Matthew Fairchild is too charming for his own good and deserves a hug。 (Why would I pick cardboard copy perfect James Herondale whe I can get behind this book。 It closed all the miscommunication from the previous books and had a satisfying close to all the plot points。 Although, there is a question that I put forth of whether or not THAT (view spoiler)[DEATH (hide spoiler)] was necessary。 All in all, my final thoughts can be summarised by saying I love Jesse Blackthorne。 He is such a sweetheart。 Matthew Fairchild is too charming for his own good and deserves a hug。 (Why would I pick cardboard copy perfect James Herondale when sure, he's hot, but Matthew is hot and has a 20 charisma? sure he's an alcoholic but。。。 I CAN FIX HIM) and Grace Blackthorne。。。 deserved better。 Overall Rating: 3。88 。。。more
